Celebrating the written Word in the heart of Europe

The Writers Festival is inspired by the need for ideas to be explored and developed.

By the overall importance and weight, we place on the written word, sometimes we forget how important it is.

Artistic Director Alia Papageorgiou volunteered for the Canberra Writers Festival, in Australia in 2016 and had this idea that really crystalised with the help of her writer’s group in Brussels during the pandemic.

We hope to bring together the writers’ communities in Belgium although we are fully aware of Belgium’s very rich, colorful, and multilingual literary past steeped in history and close to the very roots of publishing in the 15th century.

In 2026 we will travel to Antwerp where De Groene Waterman will host us in their literary cave, we hope to see you on 3 October!
