Pramudith D Rupasinghe is a novelist from Sri Lanka and a laureate of the Golden Aster Prize for World Literature in 2020 for his work Bayan. He is known for his work, which represents cultures around the world.
His literary works predominantly unfold in settings beyond his native Sri Lanka and have been translated into several languages, including Sinhalese, Burmese, Polish, German, Ukrainian, Russian, and French. Rupasinghe’s work “Bayan,” set in Ukraine, won the Golden Aster Prize for Global Literature in 2020 and was longlisted for the 2023 Paris Book Festival. “Bayan” has been featured in several European campaigns in support of Ukraine.
Another notable work by Rupasinghe, “Behind the Eclipse,” unfolds in West Africa during the Ebola crisis. His forthcoming book, “She Who Snatched The Moon,” set in Bangladesh, is slated for publication in 2025. Rupasinghe divides his time between Colombo and Brussels and has dedicated two decades to humanitarian work, drawing inspiration for his writing from his missions to Africa, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
